What you will need: A. Training collar(slip choker, or pinch collar) You can use a regular
collar but it may take a bit longer.
B. One 6 to 10 foot lead.(leash) preferably 1/2" to 3/4" leather. Rope or chain can work
also but the tiny bit of
stretch you get from leather will help protect your dog.
C. Treat.
This could be anything from a dog brisket, bacon or a ball. Something that will help keep your dogs attention.
Step 1. Choose a place that is free from distractions. (other dogs, people, traffic)
Step 2. Start your dog in the sitting position on your side. Both you and your dog will be
facing in the same direction.
Step 3. Give the leash a good tug and say,"heel!" Then start walking. As your dog is about to
get to the end of the leash, Repeat the command, "heel!" Then turn around 180 degrees away from your dog and wait.
Your dog should see that you have turned around and come back to your position.
Step 4. Make your dog sit at your side again and praise him/her and give them a treat.
Step 5. Repeat steps 1- 4.
NOTE; choker collars are for correcting and training.
You should never use these type of collars to tie your dog up or apply constant pressure. Your corrections should
be quick and swift! At NO TIME should there be constant pressure on your dogs
throat.
As with any animal training, your training should be constant and given at regular intervals. When teaching your
dog something new you should break the new task down into smaller tasks.
Above all, remember that you are in control and make the training fun for the dog. Your dog wants to please you
and if you praise you dog for a job well done he/she will want to repeat the good behavior for you.
